Build and ship
Own a project end to end: understand the problem, build a working version, get it in front of users, improve it based on what they say.
Write code that other people can read and maintain. AI-generated or not, it carries your name.
Demo your work regularly to the product and engineering team, as well as to the business teams who requested it.
Work with the businesses
Talk to the people whose jobs your tool touches. Watch how they actually work rather than taking a feature request at face value.
Translate what you hear into something you can build this week, not next quarter.
AI-augmented development
Use agentic AI tools (such as Claude Code) as your default workflow.
Develop judgment about where these tools help and where they quietly produce garbage. Bring that back to the engineering team.
Try new tools as they ship and tell us what you found, including the failures.
Required
Actively pursuing or recently obtained a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Hands-on use of at least one AI coding agent to build something, whether a class project, a side project, or a hackathon entry.
Working knowledge of a programming language: Python, TypeScript, or similar.
Comfort in a terminal. You should not need a GUI for git.
Ability to pick up unfamiliar tools by reading docs and trying things.
Preferred
Web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and any modern framework).
Knowledge of how LLMs work under the hood, not only how to prompt them.
Anything you have built that other people used, even briefly.

The opportunity
Thunderbolt is an open-source, cross-platform AI product initiative from the team behind Thunderbird. It is being built around a clear principle: people and organizations should be able to use AI while staying in control of their data, infrastructure, model choices, and long-term options. Thunderbolt is designed to support flexible deployment models, integrations with AI tools and workflows, and use cases across desktop, web, and mobile.

Youâll work across the stack to turn product direction, user needs, partner feedback, and enterprise requirements into complete product features for AI-powered chat, search, research, workflow automation, administration, integrations, and enterprise workflows. This is not a role focused only on implementing tickets. Youâll own product work from concept through launch, adoption, and iteration, helping the team understand whether features are usable, reliable, being used, and creating value.
You should be comfortable operating independently in ambiguity, working across front-end, back-end, APIs, integrations, and infrastructure-adjacent areas, and making thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, usability, maintainability, reliability, and enterprise needs. Strong candidates will be able to turn ambiguous product ideas and technical direction into shipped product experiences, reusable product and engineering patterns, and practical improvements that help Thunderbolt scale as both an open-source product and an enterprise-ready platform.

If youâre interested, curious and want to learn and do more, the sky is the limit here. We take a solutions-oriented and collaborative approach, constantly innovating our business and products.
About the role:
You are a skilled practitioner with a solid command of the technology stacks within your domain and broad familiarity with tooling across the wider Platform environment. You own and deliver CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure workstreams end-to-end with increasing autonomy, taking responsibility for moderately complex projects and exercising sound judgment in selecting methods and approaches. You build and improve internal developer tooling in collaboration with other teams, contribute to self-service platform features, and support your team onboarding workflows. You design operational solutions with monitoring and feedback loops built in, deploy medium-to-large infrastructure components via automation, and act as a primary resource for supporting and operating existing critical systems. You begin informally mentoring associate engineers and contributing to team best practices
Your contribution will be:
You are sufficiently skilled and experienced in Platform tools and processes to contribute to long-term programs or technologies such as secrets management, PIM, CosmosDB, Azure Key Vault, etc. (or AWS/GCP equivalents)
You write tools and utilities that support and integrate with delivery pipelines, and you integrate telemetry where appropriate
You debug and fix infrastructure issues on production environments
You actively build, shape, and promote infrastructure architecture patterns and practices
You are an advocate for a Platform culture and add value by bringing the Platform perspective to all your projects
You implement software solutions with increasing autonomy, taking ownership of moderately complex features and enhancements
You deliver independently with guidance as needed, demonstrating sound judgment in selecting methods and adapting techniques
You independently deploy medium to large infrastructure components via automation into production while always following development and deployment guidelines
You ensure code quality through appropriate tools and processes, considering relevant quality characteristics during design and development
You contribute to software architecture discussions, providing input on technical approaches and solutions
You diagnose and resolve software issues efficiently, improving system performance and reliability
You write thorough post-mortems for infrastructure, pipeline, and automation problems, including root cause analysis and contributing to preventative and remedial actions
You triage and solve issues correctly and independently
You work on problems of moderate scope which are often varied and routine, exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices
You work cross-functionally with product, QA, and UX teams to deliver well-rounded solutions
You collaborate with other teams to create prototypes and proof-of-concepts
You explain Platform concepts and patterns to other engineers and empower them to contribute independently
You begin mentoring associate engineers and contributing to team best practices
You contribute to the development of new functions in complex areas of Platform such as continuous integration, new infrastructure, or automated incident mitigation
You identify opportunities to improve the software development and delivery processes and support activities to improve them
You modify and improve existing development and operational procedures to make them compliant with relevant standards
You use appropriate Platform patterns to solve development and operational problems
You start each project with security in mind and make sure that security is built into the design, implementation, and relevant processes and practices
Each solution you design and implement adheres to relevant guidelines in support of security, disaster recovery, scalability, availability, reliability, and durability
You are an active part of the incident management process, including on-call rotation and working with the IM team to resolve incidents
Attend and actively participate in all team meetings and ceremonies
Contribute to improvements on the internal developer tooling, including self-service platform features that reduce friction for your team

Senior backend engineer builds and owns high-throughput Go microservices and React interfaces, driving technical decisions and mentoring teammates on scalable systems.
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Software Engineer who combines strong backend expertise in Go (Golang) with good React.js capabilities and, most importantly, a product-builder mindset.
This is a high-impact role for an engineer who goes beyond simply implementing requirements. You will identify problems, understand customer needs, shape solutions, and own outcomes end-to-end from technical design and implementation to rollout and iteration.
